Child Development Prebirth to Seven years

Updated: May 24

The human chakra system develops in 7 year cycles within 7 year cycles, each cycle offering unique opportunities for growth and self-discovery. These cycles align with the seven main chakras, each representing different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

From pre-birth to age seven, the focus is on the root chakra, establishing our sense of security and belonging. Moving toward age seven, each chakra develops, governing specific areas of life. In the next cycle, the sacral chakra takes precedence, encouraging the development of creativity and emotional expression.

This progression continues, with each subsequent seven-year period aligning with a different chakra: the solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and finally, the crown. Each phase presents its own challenges and rewards, guiding us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

Decades of Head Start preschool data and in recent years Early Head Start support this concept , showing how early childhood education programs can nurture foundational aspects of development that align with the chakra system. These programs aim to provide a secure and nurturing environment, akin to the grounding influence of the root chakra, where children can establish a strong base of trust and safety.

As children progress through these formative years, the focus shifts to fostering creativity and emotional intelligence, reflective of the sacral chakra's influence. Activities that encourage artistic expression, group play, and emotional recognition help children explore their feelings and interactions with others, laying a foundation for healthy relationships and self-awareness.

Furthermore, as these young learners move into the next developmental stages, they gain confidence and autonomy, resonant with the empowerment and self-esteem associated with the solar plexus chakra. Through supportive guidance and opportunities for independent decision-making, children learn to navigate challenges and celebrate their achievements.

This alignment of educational practices with holistic development concepts underscores the importance of nurturing the whole child, ensuring that each child grows not only in knowledge but also in spirit and emotional resilience.

In Oregon, the new SEL standards for K-12 also align with these concepts, emphasizing the development of social and emotional learning (SEL) skills that are crucial for personal growth and success. These standards focus on self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, mirroring the journey through the chakra system.
